Formerly all rural hamlets had a baking oven where they baked their own bread. Today many of these are falling into ruin or have been destroyed.
During the day of the workshop you will take part in various building tasks. This will enable you subsequently to undertake to restore or build your own oven and thus treat your whole family to fresh bread with true regard to authenticity.
PROGRAMME :
- Advice about preparing the site
- Building a dome in wet sand
- Constructing the vault and the opening of the oven (using heat resistant bricks)
Optional: Introduction to the use of daub (clayey soil) as insulation material for bread ovens.
